An Integration Solution to Water Shortage in the Latex Glove Manufacturing Industry: A Sri Lankan Project Feasibility Study

Sri Lanka is poised to expand its economy by developing its agricultural, industrial, and service sectors. Initiated under the Asian Development Bank's City Cluster Economic Development Phase II, the aim of the project is to address critical problem of water shortages in industrial parks that has prevented latex industry expansion in the country.

Ram is the Project Director for the Urban Water Supply and Sanitation (Sector) Project with the Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Management under the Ministry of Water Supply in Nepal. The country is currently undertaking a significant program to upgrade and expand its water and sanitation services. For example, in 2016, only 34% of urban households have septic tanks and only 15% have sewer connections. Overall, municipalities lack funds and skilled personnel to provide cost-effective services.

Decentralized Solutions: Agile and Appropriate Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste Management, and Renewable Energies

Mainstreaming decentralized solutions in wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and renewable energy is an agile and appropriate response to rapid urbanization. The proposed approach in addressing new challenges is the agile and iterative development of local solutions that meet the needs and promote ownership of local communities.
