COVID-19 and climate change are making it clear that disaster impacts increasingly cascade across geographies and sectors. Despite progress, risk creation is outstripping risk reduction. To change course, new approaches to governance systems and an understanding of systemic risk are needed.

Climate Risk Management in an Emergency Assistance Loan: The Pakistan Emergency Flood Assistance Project

The session shared the approach and lessons learned in climate risk management for the Emergency Assistance Loan for the Pakistan 2022 floods. The presentation highlighted key approaches and results of rapid climate change assessments used to inform the build-back-better reconstruction of key transport, irrigation, and flood risk management infrastructure.

Capacity Development Course

Forty-one ADB staff from headquarters and resident missions completed seven interactive, half-day virtual workshops of the 2023 Resilience Learning Month (RLM) capacity development course from 26 September to 17 October.

This year’s course tackled carbon pricing and carbon finance, climate finance, climate and disaster resilience, Paris alignment, and post-disaster and emergency assistance.

2023 Resilience Learning Month

In celebration of Resilience Learning Month (RLM) 2023, ADB has organized a series of online events and capacity-building workshops that highlight regional and global innovation and lessons learned on tackling climate change and building climate and disaster resilience, delivered in partnership with ADB operations departments and sector and thematic groups.
