This presentation provides an overview of hydraulic work management and utilization in Viet Nam, including highlights of significant achievements. The main challenges in hydraulic work systems and their causes are identified. It also enumerates factors that will possibly determine the future direction of water resource management in Viet Nam.

Pasig River Forum

Various initiatives and projects of Manila’s Pasig River were undertaken in collaboration with international donors, national government agencies, local governments, civil society groups, and the private sector since its restoration, which began with the Pasig River Rehabilitation Program in 1989. In 1999, a presidential mandate established the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) with the clear goal of restoring the Pasig River from a biologically dead river to Class "C" level—that which can sustain life—by 2014.

Training on Wastewater Management Expert (WaMEX) Tool

National and city-level government officials from Asian Development Bank (ADB) members were introduced to and trained in the use of the Wastewater Management Expert Systems (WaMEX), an application that aims to help decision-makers and planners in designing options to address different wastewater management scenarios. Developed by ADB and UNESCO-IHE, WaMEX can be used by wastewater experts to start a plan from scratch, upgrade existing facilities, and prepare budgets for the plans.
