An Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) 2019 Deep Dive Workshop

ADB Youth for Asia organized a capacity building workshop for young people with an educational/professional background in the energy space. The workshop was designed to empower young people in building a more sustainable future.

Asia Clean Energy Forum 2019

ACEF strives to be one of the leading clean energy events in the Asia region, and it focuses on bringing together a diverse community of practitioners and implementers to identify, discuss and address the key clean energy challenges we face in the region. ACEF 2019 focused on the challenge of effectively using knowledge to increase the scale and speed of clean energy deployment.

Sri Lanka's Approach to 100% Household Electrification​

Mobile phone services provided immediate solutions to bringing affordable power connections to Sri Lanka's households​.

Sulakshana Jayawardena, Director (Development), Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy, discussed the Government's approach to bringing affordable electricity to all households in Sri Lanka. The presentation was part of the Smart Grid Technologies and Implications for Inclusive Development in Sri Lanka training program organized by ADB and the University of Melbourne.

Thusitha Sugathapala

Dr. Thusitha Sugathapala is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering of the University of Moratuwa and a Chartered Engineer. He obtained the BSc Engineering Degree from University of Moratuwa and PhD from the University of Cambridge. He served as the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Director General of Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. Dr. Sugathapala’s research areas of interest cover both energy and environment fields, including renewable energy; energy efficiency; and environmental management.

David Elzinga

David engages across a range of energy system technologies to support ADB’s investments in the energy sector. Previously at the UN Economic Commission for Europe

David's focus was on the role of fossil fuels in sustainable energy systems and at the International Energy Agency (IEA) was the lead author for Energy Technology Perspectives publication. He also led the IEA’s work on electricity system technologies, such as Smart Grids.

Knowledge and Power: Lessons from ADB Energy Projects

With Asia set to surpass the rest of the world’s energy consumption before 2035, project implementers and stakeholders need to understand the development and needs of the region’s energy sector to meet its challenges.

ADB has provided over $28 billion in loans and grants for energy-related projects from 2008 to 2014 to its developing member countries (DMCs), as well as added value through a wealth of knowledge and suitable practices.
