Scene Setting: Green Buildings and Eco-Districts Financing and Implementation Mechanisms

How do you promote green building, energy efficiency, performing cooling, and heating methods in countries/cities that are lacking capacity? In this presentation, Mr. Heckmann discussed ADB's Ulaanbaatar Green Affordable Housing and Resilient Urban Renewal Project. It is a large-scale demonstration project and complete solution leveraging private sector investment to deliver affordable and green housing stock. The project also established policies, mechanisms, and standards for sustainable and affordable housing and green urban development.

Solar Energy: It's Not Just Electricity

The presentation acknowledges the role Solar Energy has played in transforming the Electricity sector around the globe and its indispensability to the cause of displacing high emission intensity technologies from the electricity sector, in light of the global commitment under COP 21 of UNFCCC. The presentation attempted to analyze the impact of the deployment of solar energy in achieving sustainable development goals.

Laura Williamson

Laura Williamson is responsible for directing outreach and communication activities at REN21. Laura’s other activities include strategic development and coordination of the biennial International Renewable Energy Conference. From 2008 to 2013, Laura was the Project Director for HELIO International, an international think tank developing renewable energy solutions. Previously, she was a Programme Manager with the United Nations Environment Programme, leading on industry and sustainability issues.

Wei-Nee Chen

Dr. Wei-Nee Chen was appointed as Chief Corporate Officer of SEDA on 1st October 2011. She was the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SEDA from 2nd August 2018 until 8th January 2019. Dr. Wei-nee Chen holds a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science from the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand, a Master of Business Administration from Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, and a Doctor of Business Administration from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Venkat Rajaraman

Venkat is the Founder and CEO of Cygni and an Advisory Committee member of National Center for Photovoltaic Research and Education (NCPRE), India. He has over 20 years of experience in Product Design and Engineering Management. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Solarsis and Su-Kam Power Systems, a leading power back-up and RE solution provider from India. Earlier to moving to renewable energy space, he was the Vice President of Engineering at Portal Player, a company that was acquired by NVIDIA Corp in Jan 2007. He worked at Sun Microsystems, USA.
