Kimarli Fernando

Kimarli is the Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism, heading the Government’s four main Tourism entities; Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, Sri Lanka Conventions Bureau, and Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management. This is the first time that one Chairperson was appointed to all four Boards; she is also the first woman in the role. She has been a member of the Presidential Task Force for Prevention of COVID 19 since 2020.

Sri Lanka is on the cusp of becoming an upper-middle-income country (UMIC).

Private investments in key sectors will be an important ingredient in facilitating economic advancement and establishing the country as a UMIC. Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) can bring private sector capital and efficiency to development projects identified and supported by the state.

Recognizing the vital role of public-private partnerships (PPP) for Sri Lanka in the current phase of development, ADB facilitated this knowledge event to introduce emerging highlights from ADB’s Sri Lanka PPP Monitor and initiate a discussion among stakeholders on improving the enabling environment for PPPs in the country.

Serendipity Knowledge Program for Sri Lanka

Serendipity Knowledge Program is an ADB platform dedicated to identifying knowledge solutions for Sri Lanka’s development challenges. Serendib is one of Sri Lanka’s ancient names and serendipity refers to a fortunate finding, which is a common occurrence throughout the history of product invention and scientific discovery.

ADB established this new knowledge program in 2021 in line with its vision as a knowledge solutions bank.
