Toilet Talk: How to Create Transformative Global Movement on Sanitation

Access to water and sanitation services should be a basic human right. Yet this is not the case for billions of people worldwide. In observance of UN World Toilet Day 2022, the Asian Development Bank organized a "Toilet Talk" webinar with the Founder of the World Toilet Organization (WTO), Jack Sim, to talk about how transformative global movement on sanitation can be achieved through effective communication and storytelling.

Mafalda Pinto

Mafalda Pinto is a civil engineer, specializing in hydraulics and water resources. Before joining ADB in 2020, she worked in the private sector on international assignments in the design and engineering of municipal water, wastewater, fecal sludge networks, and treatment plants. Mafalda has experience in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Her main areas of expertise are wastewater and fecal sludge management, and circular economy. Mafalda holds a MSc in Civil Engineering for Instituto Superior Tecnico, University of Lisbon and is a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland.

P. Somasekhar Rao

Doctoral degree holder (Ph. D) in Geophysics from the Osmania University, Hyderabad after obtaining M.Tech from Osmania University and a Masters's degree holder in Business Administration (MBA) from Delhi. Trained Life Coach in the area of Mastering Life’s Energies.

Maria Salvetti

Maria is a Water Economist and Policy Analyst at OECD for the Water Governance Program. Majority of her work is focused on the governance of water and sanitation services. Among her achievements, she produced a regional survey on water governance in Asia and the Pacific and several reports for different OECD programs, such as Water Security for Sustainable Development in Africa; Water Governance in Cape Town, and Water Governance in African Cities.
