Toru Kubo

Toru joined ADB in 2004 as the organization's first full-time climate change staff. He designed and established ADB’s Carbon Market Program including one of the world's first post-Kyoto carbon funds, led ADB's work to promote climate change technologies through venture capital funds, and helped establish various other initiatives focused on the nexus of climate change and energy security. In 2011 he was seconded to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change Secretariat to help design the Green Climate Fund and the Climate Technology Centre and Network.

Only a small percentage of rural population in Bangladesh has grid connectivity; hence utilizing renewable energy for households is a viable option. Technology alone, however, is not sufficient for adoption and diffusion of renewable energy systems. There is a need to adopt appropriate financing modalities for scalability of these initiatives.

Decentralized Solutions: Agile and Appropriate Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste Management, and Renewable Energies

Mainstreaming decentralized solutions in wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and renewable energy is an agile and appropriate response to rapid urbanization. The proposed approach in addressing new challenges is the agile and iterative development of local solutions that meet the needs and promote ownership of local communities.

Jiwan Acharya

Jiwan Acharya is currently focused on developing and implementing energy efficiency, renewable energy and other broader energy sector projects in India and Nepal. He worked with Energy Sector Group Secretariat in the Sustainable Development and Climate Change Department of ADB in October 2006 as Senior Energy Specialist. He is a key member of ADB's Energy Sector Group and Climate Change Team and was responsible for overseeing ADB's several key initiatives including Energy for All, and Low Carbon Technology Transfer, among others. Jaquelin Cochran

Jaquelin Cochran analyzes best practices to integrate renewable and distributed energy resources to the electric grid. She recently co-led a renewable energy grid integration study of India and is currently leading the City of Los Angeles 100% Renewable Energy Study. Before joining NREL, Dr. Cochran was an Assistant Professor of Natural Resource Management with KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She also served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for two years with the Polish Foundation for Energy Efficiency (FEWE) in Krakow.
