This presentation gives an overview of a number of examples of policy, programs, and project interventions that address gender issues and support women’s empowerment through policy dialogue, providing access to and affordability of specialized training courses, and skills development programs for women to be able to compete for new jobs in the labor market.
The digital age offers significant opportunities to empower women - to earn additional income, enhance employment prospects, and acquire knowledge. But at the same time, digital transformation may have a negative impact on women’s access to resources and opportunities, including jobs, skills, and livelihoods. So how can countries build these opportunities for women and girls while mitigating a negative impact?
This presentation shares details of the Asian Development Bank project, High Mountain Agribusiness and Livelihood Improvement in Nepal. The project helped improve access of women and the disadvantaged to information and technical skills. The gains also included increased household income and management capacity. The challenges and lessons learned are enumerated as well.
Millions in the Asia and Pacific region, particularly South Asia, still do not have access to electricity. South Asia, in addition to its lack of a cost reflective tariff, also faces a number of issues on tariff setting. The promotion of inclusive access remains the key to meeting these challenges.
