Born and raised in India, Prof. Muralidharan earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University (summa cum laude), an M.Phil. in economics from Cambridge University (ranked first), and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University. His research spans development, public, and labor economics with a focus on improving the effectiveness of public spending in the social sector (education, health, and social protection programs).

Earlier, Pankaj served for three years in the CSR department at Tata Steel, where he worked with tribal farmers to promote and strengthen their livelihoods.
