Sanchita Basu-Das

Sanchita joined ADB in November 2018 and initially served as an Economist in the South Asia Regional Department. She was previously the Lead Researcher for Economic Affairs at the ASEAN Studies Centre of ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, Singapore. She was concurrently a Fellow of the Regional Economic Studies Program, coordinator of Singapore APEC Studies Centre, and a co-editor of Journal of Southeast Asian Economies (JSEAE), all housed under the same institute. 

The Role of Institutions in Development: A History of Thought and Analysis of the Country Performance Assessment Data

Researchers have for a long time now emphasized the role of institutions in economic development. This presentation explains what led to the current thinking on the role of institutions in development and how that thinking has changed over time. It also uses data from the ADB's Country Performance Assessment exercise to examine the relationship between institutions and economic performance.

ADB-ADBI Forum on Governance and Institutions: Practical Lessons on Governance and Service Delivery for Subnational Governments

The Governance Thematic Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) jointly organized the 2017 Forum on Governance and Institutions in partnership with the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) and Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute (KLID), on 9-11 August 2017 in Seoul, Korea. This year’s topic was “Governance and Service Delivery: Practical Lessons for Subnational Governments.”
