Presentation

The speakers present the application of Earth Observation technology in water resources management, agriculture, and aquaculture in Indonesia. They highlight the importance of Earth Observation in improving project design and implementation, gathering field data, investments planning, and transfer of knowledge to counterpart agencies.

Jun Murai

Jun Murai received his Ph.D. in Computer Science, Keio University in 1987, majored in Computer Science, the Internet, and Computer Communication. He established JUNET, the first network in Japan connecting multiple universities, in 1984. In 1988, established the WIDE Project, a Japanese Internet research consortium. Has long been engaged in research related to Internet technology platforms and is known as the Father of the Internet in Japan and in international circles as the Internet Samurai.

Atsuko Okuda

Ms. Atsuko Okuda was appointed as the Regional Director in April 2020. Prior to the new assignment, she was the Chief of the ICT and Development Section of the ICT and Disaster Risk Reduction Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in Bangkok, Thailand from 2015 to 2020. At ESCAP, she promoted the development of regional broadband connectivity and inclusive broadband through the implementation of the Asia-Pacific Information Superhighway (AP-IS) initiative.

Arndt Husar

Arndt manages communications and knowledge initiatives and associated knowledge products, capacity building initiatives, and stakeholder engagement for the South Asia Regional Department. He supports core functions, such as strategic programming, country partnership strategy oversight, quality assurance, and portfolio management. Arndt also advises senior management on the identification of strategic directions and priorities.
