James Sutherland

Dr. James Sutherland is a Technical Director and the Team Leader for the Coastal and Seabed Processes teams within the Coasts and Oceans group. He is an internationally known specialist in coastal and marine processes with 30 years of postdoctoral experience. His areas of expertise include sediment transport, scour around structures, coastal erosion, and beach management. He has worked on projects in over 20 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Americas.

Ms. Thomas joined WWF’s Coral Triangle Program in 2008 as a Pacific Policy Officer based in Fiji, and in 2014, became Program Leader. Ms. Thomas has lived and worked in the Pacific region since 2003, when she relocated from Australia to work for WWF in the Solomon Islands. Before that, she worked in regional development in Western Australia for 13 years.
