It also looks at the implications if renewed investment in irrigation and drainage systems is to be effective.

2nd Asian Irrigation Forum

The Asian Development Bank responded to regional irrigation needs by hosting the first Asian Irrigation Forum in 2012. The forum brought together stakeholders to share knowledge, best practices, and technological advancements; and identified future investment opportunities. However, irrigation in Asia still faces limited resources, outdated system designs, institutional inefficiencies, and weak governance. There is also a need for more intricate understanding of the changing rural economy and for more novel and impactful solutions.

David Evans

David Evans is a senior fellow at the Center for Global Development, working on education, health, and social safety nets. Previously he was at the World Bank, where he co-authored the World Development Report 2018, Learning to Realize Education’s Promise, coordinated impact evaluation work for sub-Saharan Africa, and managed education projects in Brazil. Evans has evaluated education, early child development, agriculture, health, and social safety net programs in Brazil, the Gambia, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania.

New Water Policy and Plans for Irrigation Development in the People's Republic of China

This presentation highlights issues related to the Government of the People's Republic of China (PRC)'s decision to increase investment in the water sector, particularly the development of water-saving irrigation. The government of PRC also intends to promote international cooperation through the establishment of 3 Centers of Excellence.
