Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report Released

The world may not be able to meet its targets in ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy by 2030 if efforts are not scaled up significantly, according to the new Tracking SDG 7: The Energy Progress Report released on 28 May 2020 by the International Energy Agency (IEA) the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), the World Bank, and the World Health Organization (WHO).

Powering Healthcare Solutions Catalogue

This catalogue serves the purpose of connecting stakeholders from the energy and health sectors with solutions providers, to help meet the energy needs of healthcare facilities in response to COVID-19 and beyond. The solutions provided represent a sample of a larger group of solution providers who can contribute to addressing this challenge. The vast majority of healthcare facilities in low income countries – in particular in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia – do not have access to reliable electricity. Yet, they are expected to be at the frontline of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

An assessment tool for building back strong and sustainable from the COVID-19 pandemic published

The Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Division has released an assessment tool that provides a recovery framework interfacing various objectives in climate, low-carbon growth, and resilience. This tool will help ADB developing member countries seize the opportunity presented by the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) to shift their development trajectories towards a low-carbon growth path that will have addressed climate change mitigation and adaptation goals. In particular, the tool provides different sets of actions, approaches, and interventions on how a country will

Ammonia technology roadmap towards a more sustainable nitrogen fertilizer production

This technology roadmap uses scenario analysis to explore three possible futures for ammonia production. In the Stated Policies Scenario, the industry follows current trends, making incremental improvements but falling well short of a sustainable trajectory. In the Sustainable Development Scenario, the sector adopts the technologies and policies required to put it on a pathway aligned with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Pacific Renewable Energy Program Annual Report (April to December 2019)

This is the first report of the Program that was jointly developed by PSOD and PAEN under One ADB since it was approved in April 2019. The Pacific Renewable Energy Program (Program) provides an umbrella facility of up to $100,000,000 of financing support, including loans, guarantees, and letters of credit, to overcome the constraints to private sector investment in renewable energy projects in island countries.

Increasing Access to Clean Cooking in the Philippines: Challenges and Prospects

This publication analyzes the use of clean and efficient cooking technologies in the Philippines and identifies opportunities and challenges to fast-track their uptake. In Asia and the Pacific, 1.8 billion people still rely on traditional cooking methods using fires and solid fuels. The wider uptake of cleaner cooking solutions is vital for achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 7 objective of universal access to modern, affordable, reliable, and sustainable modern energy. It is also important for the environment and human health.

Guidebook for Deploying Distributed Renewable Energy Systems: A Case Study on the Cobrador Hybrid Solar PV Mini-Grid

This guidebook runs the reader through the design, preparation, and installation of a renewable energy-based hybrid solar photovoltaic mini-grid system, with a specific application in island settings. Lessons from the hybrid mini-grid pilot project implemented in Cobrador, Romblon Islands in the Philippines have been collated in this case study including approaches, tools and the business model that optimize renewable energy resources for off-grid electrification.
