Session Synopsis: The global community now faces three global crises: climate change, nature loss, and environmental pollution. In order to address these vital issues, the socio-economic systems need to be transformed into more sustainable and resilient one. Japan is now accelerating the transition to a decarbonized society and circular economy. One of the important initiatives is the ASEAN+3 Marine Plastics Debris Cooperative Action Initiative to implement the G20 Agreements and the ASEAN Framework of Action on Marine Debris, aiming to reduce and promote the recycling of plastic waste. ADB aims to promote and share innovative technologies, good practices, case studies, and practical solutions toward plastic-free oceans through the Healthy Oceans Finance and Technology Forum.

Towards this end, this session shared the best practices on plastic resource circulation in Japan’s private sector, from the perspectives of advanced technologies, and broader and deeper cooperation of stakeholders from various sectors.
