Insurance to Support the Resilience of Marine Coastal Ecosystems

Series: 2021 Resilience Learning Month

Insurance to Support the Resilience of Marine Coastal Ecosystems

11 November 2021

Healthy coastal ecosystems, such as coral reefs, are natural buffers that provide the first line of defense against extreme weather events. These ecosystems are rapidly declining, however, despite their importance for coastal cities, communities, and infrastructure. Insurance can financially protect and incentivize the maintenance of coastal ecosystems, such as coral reefs.

This session explored how to design effective insurance solutions and provided an overview of the work of ADB and Asia-Pacific Climate Finance Fund (ACliFF) to develop such solutions, providing examples and insights from Fiji and the Philippines.
