ADB Data Room: Nature-Based Solutions

13 June 2023
  • Nature-based solutions (NBS), using nature and its ecosystem services, can address various development challenges, including environmental pollution, food insecurity, and climate change.
  • NBS can be defined as the “actions to protect, conserve, restore, sustainably use and manage natural or modified terrestrial, freshwater, coastal and marine ecosystems which address social, economic and environmental challenges effectively and adaptively, while simultaneously providing human well-being, ecosystem services, resilience, and biodiversity benefits.”[1]
  • With its Strategy 2030, which sets out the commitment to ensure environmental sustainability in Asia and the Pacific, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) uses NBS as one of its promising tactics.[2]
  • ADB provides its technical and financial services with a combination of knowledge, advice, and funding as a package from beginning to end to integrate NBS into investment projects.
