ADB Data Room: Competition Policy Initiative

Robust competition policies are essential for fostering economic development. They promote healthy markets, enhance consumer protection, and stimulate innovation and investment. However, crafting effective competition policies is a complex undertaking. It necessitates a thorough understanding of a nation's development path, legal framework, political landscape, and institutional structures. The ever-expanding realm of digital platforms and e-commerce necessitates even closer scrutiny of competition policy design by policymakers and stakeholders.

The Competition Policy Initiative (CPI) was established to address this critical need. Launched in 2020, it serves as a consultative forum and a comprehensive resource for practitioners, industry leaders, and regulators. Drawing from global regulatory best practices, the initiative offers targeted insights that respond to regional challenges and supports stakeholders in staying up to date with the evolving competition landscape through knowledge products and events focused on economics, law, and regulatory frameworks. Through these efforts, CPI seeks to support the development of effective and adaptive policies that can keep pace with today’s dynamic market environment.
