Developing Judicial Capacity for Adjudicating Climate Change and Sustainable Development Issues: Training on Environmental Law

The TA will assist judiciaries develop seminal jurisprudence responsive to climate change and sustainable development issues as follows: (i) by exposing them to global and regional developments in this field, especially emerging concepts, principles, and jurisprudence from different jurisdictions and international tribunals, through their participation in national, regional and international conferences; (ii) by identifying country-specific capacity gaps and addressing them in a manner that institutionalizes trainings and lessons learned, which will then cascade to the lowest-level courts;

Intersections of Climate Justice and Human Rights: Lessons from South Asia

South Asia’s jurisprudence relating to environmental rights and sustainable development is a good example to the rest of the world. For instance, judiciaries in South Asia have used existing rights creatively and articulated the right to a healthy environment. This trend continues in relation to climate change. Woochong Um

Woochong Um is ADB’s Managing Director General. He assumed the position on 22 February 2021. Mr. Um is responsible for ensuring bank-wide coherence of key initiatives and issues. He provides oversight to the Department of Communications, the Office of Professional Conduct, and the Office of the Ombudsperson. 

Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in Europe

Fuel cells and hydrogen (FCH) are part of and are making a great contribution to Europe’s energy transition. The region believes that FCH are key technologies for decarbonizing the energy system. The Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking was established as a strong public-private partnership with a focused objective to accelerate the development of technology base towards market deployment of FCH technologies.

Intended Nationally Determined Contributions and Transport Mitigation Potential

Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) are climate pledges that countries have made before the Paris Agreement on Climate Change in 2015. Transport-related climate actions were also included in the INDCs.
