Changing Behavior for Good: Development Communication in Solid Waste Management

Implementing successful, long-term solutions to reduce, dispose, and recover solid waste requires communication to change behaviors of diverse stakeholders from households to utilities. ADB’s Andrew McIntyre shared the results of a five-city technical assistance on mainstreaming solid waste management and how ADB can ensure changed behaviors persist beyond project life.

Laxmi Sharma is the Unit Head of Project Administration, Water and Urban Development Sector Office at Asian Development Bank. An engineer with over 25 years of experience in integrated urban planning and development, water and sanitation, solid waste management, inclusive city development, urban transport sector, and infrastructure and service financing models, she is skilled in multi-stakeholder driven development; project design, processing, and management; and application of technologies. She has strategic and field-level knowledge in urban development, water and sanitation sector.
