Sub-Regional Conference on Wastewater Management: Promoting Innovations and Sustainable Investments

The sub-regional conference formally launched Regional Technical Assistance 8060: Promoting Innovations in Wastewater Management in Asia and the Pacific. Participants were a mixture of government executives, wastewater industry practitioners, and private sector representatives from the following countries: Philippines, Viet Nam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan.

This presentation discusses how to ensure central government or local government subsidies are used rationally to solve sanitation issues. The necessary aspects for rational and sustainable maintenance and management of wastewater treatment facilities constructed with national subsidies are enumerated. The experience of Japan is featured as a case study.

This presentation introduces the City of San Fernando in the Province of La Union, Philippines. The sanitation programs of the city comprising of ecological solid waste management and wastewater treatment facility among others, and supported by environmental ordinances, are discussed. Environmental awards and recognitions received by the city are highlighted.
