Gregory Auta’a, Principal Tourism Officer, the Government of the Solomon Islands Auta’a is the Principal Tourism Officer for the Government of the Solomon Islands, overlooking projects and product development within the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the whole of the country, with a special focus on pilot projects led by the ministry and the Eco-tourism project grant program.

Developing and Promoting Sustainable Nature-Based Tourism in the Coral Triangle

Jointly organized by ADB and the World Wide Fund for Nature, this session discussed investment opportunities in nature-based tourism in the Asia-Pacific region. The Coral Triangle Sustainable Nature-based Tourism Project aims to assist the six countries of the Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries, and Food Security in regional collaboration for the acceleration of achievements of regional and national marine conservation goals.

Yap Renewable Energy Development Project: Breaking the Reliance on Fossil Fuels

A combination of forces threatens the energy sector in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), leading to high electricity costs. In 2013, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) collaborated with FSM to strategically harness and maximize renewable energy sources in an energy mix diversification project to reduce Yap’s dependence on fuel imports.

Effective Civil Society Organization Engagement in the Pacific for Better Development Results

This learning event aimed to build the capacity of focal persons in civil society organizations (CSOs) and select project officers in the Pacific Department (PARD) of ADB in terms of collaborating in designing and implementing ADB projects. The purpose is to develop mechanisms for engaging CSOs to take part in project activities, which includes monitoring project outputs. The event also served as a venue for PARD staff and development coordinators to share good practice examples in working with CSOs, as some of them have been implementing action plans to improve CSO cooperation.
