Transforming Leadership: Women, Men, Power and Potential

A multi-stakeholder dialogue process, this learning event engaged the participants in creating a safe learning environment to explore one another’s perspectives, to look at their leadership challenges in new ways, to reflect, and to be inspired. The Tokyo Lab is the third and final face-to-face session with participants who began the leadership journey in the Cambodia Lab in November 2016 and the Berlin Lab in March 2017.

Paul Kent

Paul is an economist with over 18 years of experience in Australia, the Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. He has previously worked as an economist with the Australian Government and also been based in Beijing between 2000 and 2004 and Hong Kong, China from 2008 to 2012. He is currently based in Singapore since 2013 where he leads KPMG Singapore’s Economic and Regulation practice, a team of economic, policy, and regulatory professionals.

ADB-ADBI Forum on Governance and Institutions: Practical Lessons on Governance and Service Delivery for Subnational Governments

The Governance Thematic Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) jointly organized the 2017 Forum on Governance and Institutions in partnership with the United Nations Project Office on Governance (UNPOG) and Korea Local Information Research & Development Institute (KLID), on 9-11 August 2017 in Seoul, Korea. This year’s topic was “Governance and Service Delivery: Practical Lessons for Subnational Governments.”

Event Report

This report summarizes the event proceedings of the Learning Event on Localizing Global Agendas held at the ADB headquarters on 27–29 September 2016 jointly organized by the Governance Thematic Group of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Development Partners Network on Decentralisation and Local Governance (DeLoG). The event aimed to explore current approaches by countries in the Asia-Pacific region and by development partners for localizing the global agendas and for ensuring the role of subnational governments in urban development and climate change activities.

Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative in Asia: Progress and Emerging Issues

Jonas Moberg, Head of Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)’s International Secretariat, presented the progress and impact of EITI implementation in Asia, particularly on how it improves governance of the extractive sector. He also discussed EITI's new requirements on disclosure of beneficial ownership and transparency in commodity trading.

Oscar Moreno

The Honorable Oscar S. Moreno, Mayor of Cagayan de Oro City, has ushered the city and its constituents to greater heights, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Under his stewardship, the City has been ranked as among the Most Competitive Cities in the Philippines, second only to Makati City. This means that the leadership of Mayor Moreno has resulted in economic dynamism, government efficiency, and the setting up in place of appropriate infrastructure.

He is also Chair of the League of City Mayors in the Philippines.

Corruption Risks and Anti-Corruption Strategies in Climate Financing: Good Governance Towards Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability in Achieving Objectives in Climate Mitigation and Adaptation - High-Level Event and Panel Discussion

The Asian Development Bank, in collaboration with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Center, and in partnership with the Office of the Ombudsman in the Philippines, organized this event to discuss how corruption and non-transparency can be most effectively addressed including how anti-corruption efforts can be integrated into measures of good governance in the fight against climate change to ensure transparent, efficient, and accountable use of climate finance for effective projects and tangible results.
