Diane Archer

Diane Archer is a Senior Research Fellow with SEI. Diane joined SEI Asia in September 2018 as Urban Research Fellow, working on the City Health and Wellbeing Initiative. She also works on urban climate resilience and other initiatives seeking to achieve more equitable and sustainable cities.

Diane brings expertise on urban poverty and urban community-led development, with an emphasis on achieving inclusive urban governance in cities of Asia and Africa. She has also previously worked on responses to urban humanitarian crises as well as adaptation to climate change in cities.

Applying Nature-based Solutions to Conserve Natural Capital and Achieve Climate Resilience

Linear infrastructure projects need to support and take advantage of natural capital, as well as help build resilience against climate change. Clearly, each element of natural capital can be enhanced or degraded through human activities such as road construction, land clearing, forest burning, or mining. On one hand, natural capital is often damaged by climate change i.e., warming climate, longer droughts, and more intense rains.

Kisa Mfalila

Kisa Mfalila is Lead Climate and Environment Specialist for Asia and the Pacific Region (APR) with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). She oversees the climate and environment work program in the region. Under this capacity, she is responsible for delivering sustainability outcomes in IFAD investments through the application of Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Standards and build climate resilience of smallholder farmers by integrating climate adaptation in operations.

Capacity Development Course

SDCD held a virtual Resilience Learning Month 2021 capacity development course in November and December which targeted national staff from ADB resident missions and country offices in the South and Southeast Asia Departments. The course is comprised of six short, highly interactive workshops that integrate training on climate and disaster resilience, climate finance, climate change mitigation, and disaster risk financing.

The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF): Exploring Opportunities for ADB

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Systematic Observations Financing Facility (SOFF) established at COP26 in Glasgow, aims to mobilize $200 million in grant funds to support LDCs and SIDS improve their weather observation infrastructure. The support includes (i) TA resources to undertake initial assessments; (ii) grant resources to establish observation infrastructure, and (iii) results-based financing to support the maintenance of observation infrastructure.
