ADB is committed to supporting low carbon city development efforts consistent with the global climate goals. Cities play crucial role in providing better life. For a long time, our cities are experiencing significant population and economic growth through carbon-intensive industrialization, urban sprawl and migration, and environmental pollution. International Forum on Low Carbon Development for Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program Cities

Rapid urbanization has been accompanied by increasing demand for energy and natural resources, and consequently disproportionate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cities. Witnessing unprecedented variability in weather conditions, anticipating climate change-induced threat, and recognizing the urgency to act, a historic agreement was made at the United Nations Climate Change Conference of Parties in Paris in December 2015.

This is significant since cooperation on regional public goods promises substantial economic benefits.
