Nobel laureate Claudia Goldin showed economic growth did not always increase women’s workforce participation in the United States. Women’s work declined during the transition from agriculture to manufacturing but increased with greater jobs in the service sector. Despite progress, women continue to earn less than men due to unpaid care work and ‘greedy jobs’.
