Virtual ACEF commences today

The 15th Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) kicks off today with deep-dive workshops in the afternoon. ACEF’s Week-at-a-Glance presents varied topics that are consistent with this year’s theme, Cross-sectoral Innovations for a Sustainable Future. You may have already enlisted in your preferred tracks and sessions through the ACEF Newsletter. There are also side events organized by ADB and our partners that run after the main forum.

The 15th Asia Clean Energy Forum will go virtual

The Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) will not be daunted by the limitations presented by the COVID-19 pandemic and will be delivered through an online platform from 15 to 18 June. This year’s content will revolve around the theme, Vision 20/20: Cross-Sectoral Innovations for a Sustainable Future, and continue building on the multisectoral perspective brought to more focus in 2019.

Four thematic tracks will set the parameters of the discussions during the 15th ACEF in June:

First-ever virtual ACEF concluded marking many firsts

It was the first time that ACEF in its 15th year was held fully online. It was the first time that more than 4,600 participants get to take part in it. The 15th Asia Clean Energy Forum defied the limits presented by the coronavirus pandemic demonstrating that sustainable, resilient and clean energy future cannot be daunted; that the transition to such a future does not waste a single day; and that, learning and collaboration persist and are even more crucial in times of the most unprecedented of crises.

Easing Pakistan’s chronic energy crisis through improved tariff subsidy

This Policy Brief recommends for the tariff differential subsidy in Pakistan to either be eliminated or reduced and its targeting features improved. Pakistan’s energy sector has been beset with power outages, lack of capital investments, and inefficient electricity networks. The reforms proposed seek to arrest this cycle and help bring the sector on the right track.

Mobilizing Private Capital and Know-How to Turn Waste into Energy

OverviewRelevant and practical integrated waste management approaches are crucial for countering public health impacts of uncollected waste and environmental impacts of open dumping and burning. Medium to large cities in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) considers this as a pressing need to help them attain environmental sustainability and improve the quality of life of their citizens.Turning municipal solid waste into energy through the waste-to-energy process is one of the popular strategies of solving the rise of generated waste.

Energy For All

The Asian Development Bank's (ADB) Energy for All Initiative began as a response to persistent, widespread energy poverty in the developing countries of Asia and the Pacific region. By improving ADB’s ability to support energy access solutions, and through activities including project development, investment facilitation, and spreading best practices, Energy for All helped ADB increase its investments in energy access to new heights.
