From limiting environmental impact and assessing sites for offshore wind farms to mapping rural households without access to electricity, Earth observation and satellite imagery can support planning for energy sector investments. 

Findings from a 2023 household survey conducted in Southeast Asia, the Caucasus, and Central Asia showed that both regions had significant levels of food insecurity, with Southeast Asia showing more severe conditions. Among the various coping strategies adopted by households, only applying for government assistance had a significant effect on reducing food insecurity.

The four atoll nations—namely Kiribati, Maldives, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Tuvalu—faced existential climate adaptation challenges. Rising extreme sea levels accelerated coastal flooding, erosion, and ecosystem degradation, threatening the very foundations of these island communities.
