Circular Economy in the Construction Industry (Circular Economy Webinar Series Session 26)
In the seminar, the potential of circular economy (CE) in the construction industry, known for its significant environmental footprint, was discussed. It focused on the stakeholders’ perception of costs and benefits. A machine learning model analyzed data from 382 participants from Norway, Latvia, Kazakhstan, UAE, Pakistan, Turkey, Spain, and other countries which were collected using an online survey in 2023.
The results identified cost-effective practices and provided a strategic framework for CE integration. Key findings included a focus on reuse and offsite production in Europe and material reuse optimization in non-European countries, with waste reduction as a common cost-reducing factor. The study contributed to policy development and stakeholder collaboration, emphasizing the financial, environmental, and social benefits of CE in construction.
