The Honourable Don Pomb Polye hails from Wabag in the Enga Province, within the Kandep Electorate. He did his Primary and High School in the Western Highlands Province from 1975 (Grades 1-6) to 1984 (Grades 7-10). Minister Polye was selected to do his Secondary Education at the Passam National High School in Wewak, East Sepik Province from 1985-1986. He then proceeded on to PNG’s University of Technology (Unitech) for his Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering which he completed in 1990. From 2004-2007, Minister Polye enrolled and completed his Masters in Business Administration at the Southern Cross University in Sydney, Australia.
After graduating from Unitech, he worked with various projects, mostly with the Department of Works as a Project Engineer and as Consultant.
His political career started in 2002. He was appointed the Deputy Leader of the National Alliance Party in 2002 and held various Ministerial portfolios from 2002 to 2006. Also between 2006 and 2007, he was the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Civil Aviation. Minister Polye was re-elected in the 2007 National Elections as Member for Kandep, and again held the portfolio of Minister for Works, Transport and Civil Aviation until 2010. From December 2010 to 2011, he was appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Immigration during the Ministerial reshuffle, and later in August 2011, Minister for Finance & Treasury and Border Development Authority. He was again re-elected in the 2012 General Elections as Member for Kandep. He has been the Treasurer since the formation of the Government, and Leader of the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party (T.H.E).
