Infrastructure Investments and Public Transport Use: Evidence from Lahore, Pakistan
Just like in most developing countries, women in Pakistan depend on public transportation when going from one place to another. Unfortunately, women in Pakistan face major challenges in using public transport due to concerns over safety, harassment, and worries about their social reputation.
In this seminar, Kate Vyborny of Duke University and Center for Economic Research in Pakistan presented an impact evaluation of mass transit on commuting and public transport use in Pakistan. She also shared some recommendations on the expansion of public mass transport that consider the safety of women.
