Projects and programs in road safety management should always be evaluated and lessons learned incorporated into new programs. 

Establishing and operating effective performance management arrangements will deliver improved accountability for governments, agencies, and departments within agencies. Safety performance indicators—specific road safety elements that reflect actual safety conditions—will help assist in the management of performance. Aligning performance measures to outputs and intermediate outcome measures will drive performance improvement and community awareness.
