Event: ADB Data Room: ASEAN Australia Smart Cities Trust Fund AASCTF project data sheet: Hue View File Huế, Viet Nam’s ancient capital, is renowned for its rich cultural heritage, historic architecture, and unique urban landscape shaped by centuries of history. As the city continues to grow, it faces the challenge of managing urban development and climate risks while preserving the cultural and natural assets that define its identity. Huế aspires to become Viet Nam’s first smart and livable city, using data and digital tools to guide more informed, coordinated, and resilient urban planning. The ASEAN Australia Smart Cities Trust Fund (AASCTF) supported the Thừa Thiên Huế Provincial People’s Committee through the Huế Smart Digital City Model project, delivering a three-dimensional digital planning model that integrates spatial data to help visualize urban growth, test development scenarios, and support evidence-based decision-making for future city development. This project data sheet is part of a collection that features 10 cities with direct interventions from AASCTF. Each data sheet provides a summary of the project, detailing challenges, solutions, and early impacts and benefits, as well how the solutions can be sustained long after project completion. The goal is to showcase how AASCTF has collaborated with the city and partners to catalyze people-centric smart solutions, which can hopefully be replicated or scaled in other Asian cities. AASCTF is financed by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, managed by the Asian Development Bank, and implemented by Ramboll.
