Workshop on Promoting Environmentally Sustainable Smart Cities

15 October 2018 to 18 October 2018
Seoul
Republic of Korea

Asian cities are expected to accommodate another 1 billion people within the next 2 decades. Cities drive economic growth, but rapid urbanization is threatening the quality of life and degrading environmental systems. Many South Asian cities already face challenges of environmental degradation, inadequate urban infrastructure and services, and inefficient management systems.

ADB’s South Asia Department, in collaboration with the Republic of Korea’s Ministry of Environment (MoE), Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute (KEITI), and K-water, organized a 4-day knowledge and networking workshop in Seoul, Republic of Korea on 15-18 October 2018 on “Promoting Environmentally Sustainable Smart Cities.”

Over 80 participants were in attendance, including ADB South Asia Regional Department (SARD) developing member country (DMC) officials, 8 smart city chief executive officers from India, Korean smart city experts, Korean private sector representatives, and ADB SARD staff from the headquarters and resident missions. The workshop provided a platform to share knowledge and experience in managing urban challenges through integrated smart city approaches.
