Series: 2026 Resilience Learning Month Resilient Design for Dynamic Landscapes: Working with Nature to Build Infrastructure that Lasts 23 April 2026 Shifting rivers, evolving floodplains, and glacier melt are transforming Himalayan landscapes and challenging contemporary approaches to infrastructure and urban development design. This session highlighted how understanding natural processes and landscape change can guide resilient design, enabling infrastructure to adapt rather than resist. Through case studies, including the Melamchi Water Supply Project (Nepal), participants explored strategies for working with rivers, slopes, and dynamic terrain to build infrastructure that lasts—reducing risk, enhancing performance, and supporting sustainable development across mountain regions and beyond.
