Regional Health and Safety Training in the Pacific Region
The Asian Development Bank arranged a 4-day training for Pacific DMC representatives in Nadi, Fiji entitled ‘Regional Health and Safety Training in the Pacific Region'.The Regional Training convened relevant executing and implementing agencies’ officials to provide overview of ADB’s policy requirements to ensure safe and healthy working environments on ADB supported projects. Relevant topics discussed were the following: (i) health, safety and security including labor and working conditions awareness and understanding of the requirements and processes associated in the management and implementation of ADB-funded projects; (ii) guidance on risk assessment and management planning for typical hazards associated with the nature of projects within the DMCs of the Pacific Region; (iii) proposing solutions for persistent health, safety and security challenges; (iv) outlining good international practice to manage major incidents and accidents at the workplace including issues regarding Sexual Exploitation Abuse and Harassment (SEAH); and (v) guidance on the critical overlaps between effective procurement of contractors to ensure effective implementation of safeguards management plans including the health and safety management plan.
