Nature in Financial Regulation: Global Lessons for Central Banks and Supervisors
28 October 2026

Armenia

Nature loss and ecosystem degradation are creating growing risks for financial systems, while also highlighting the need to mobilize and redirect capital toward nature-positive outcomes. As countries advance implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), central banks and financial regulators have an important role in integrating nature-related considerations into financial sector policy, regulation, supervision, and sustainable finance markets.

This event will bring together central banks, financial regulators, international standard setters, development partners, and other stakeholders to discuss global experience and practical approaches for managing nature-related financial risks and enabling nature-positive finance. The session will explore implementation challenges, identify capacity-building priorities, and examine opportunities for regional and international cooperation. It will be an opportunity to discuss emerging findings of ADBs’ forthcoming report on nature-related financial risks and opportunities for central banks and financial regulators.

The event also will be an opportunity to launch a new NSFH regional platform to strengthen the capacity of central banks and financial regulators to integrate nature-related risks and opportunities into financial sector policy, regulation, supervision, and market development. The discussion aims to strengthen the contribution of financial systems to KMGBF implementation through improved risk management, policy frameworks, and mobilization of finance for nature.
