Pacific WASH Webinar: Building Successful Utility-Landowner Partnerships for Reliable WASH Services
Providing safe and reliable water services to the public requires water utilities and natural resource management agencies to have secure and long-term access to land and water resources.
In the Pacific, up to 80% of land and water resources are vested in the stewardship of customary landowners, this often requires water service providers and government officials to work collaboratively with landowners.
How can water service providers make modern and traditional land and water management systems work for the benefit of the wider public who are water service customers while respecting the custodianship of Indigenous communities over these resources?
This webinar will explore these issues and share best practices and lessons learned from the Solomon Islands and Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. Also part of the discussion is how they have implemented innovative legal and social approaches for accessing land and water resources, including water licensing systems to protect water resources and ensure equitable allocation. Experts and practitioners will also share on how to develop and implement cooperative approaches to ensure water security for all.
This webinar is the third in a series of Pacific WASH Webinars for 2024, organized by the Asian Development Bank and the Pacific Water and Wastewater Association.
Join us on Wednesday 26 June to learn more about this important topic and to engage with our panelists and other participants.
