Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED)

This presentation gave an overview of ADB's Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development, which will help the Maldives tap solar power and reduce reliance on costly, polluting diesel oil. The project will install solar-diesel hybrid grids on outer islands and the greater Male region. Skills development support will also be given to the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the main power utilities State Electricity Company and FENAKA Corporation Ltd. for the hybrid rollouts.

Solar PV Manufacturing in the People's Republic of China and Potential for Overseas Relocation

This presentation discussed the development of solar PV manufacturing in the People's Republic of China as well as an assessment of the PRC's industry policy for solar PV manufacturing. It also considered the potential of developing solar PVs in developing countries, as well as the potential for the relocation of the PRC's solar manufacturing capacity.

Solar, Storage & Smart Grids : Global Outlook in Asia

This presentation gave an overview of Asia's global solar PV market share in 2018, as well as trends in solar farm costs and lithium-ion battery prices. It also suggested some next steps in unleashing solar energy such as the introduction of smart grids as new business models and promoting higher productivity through the development of innovation and certification standards.

Avenues for Subsidy Swap in India – Insights from the ACCESS Surveys

The Access to Clean Cooking Energy and Electricity - Survey of States is a survey carried out in 2015 covering more than 9000 rural households in the six most energy-poor states in India: Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. This presentation discussed some insights from the survey concerning the progress of household electrification, the reliability of electricity supply, and opportunities for a subsidy swap from kerosene to solar.
