Only a small percentage of rural population in Bangladesh has grid connectivity; hence utilizing renewable energy for households is a viable option. Technology alone, however, is not sufficient for adoption and diffusion of renewable energy systems. There is a need to adopt appropriate financing modalities for scalability of these initiatives.

This presentation provides a brief history of the sewerage system in the City of Melbourne in Australia. The bulk transfer system, level of service, and the challenges of Melbourne Water Corporation’s major sewerage system are discussed. The role of the company’s sewerage transfer team is also explained.

Sustainability Requirements for Community-Based Organizations to Manage Rural Water Supply Schemes

Experiences have shown that Community Based Organizations (CBOs) are constrained in maintaining sustainable water systems. To understand the challenges faced by CBOs, a study was undertaken in Sri Lanka where six rural water supply schemes implemented using funds from the Asian Development Bank were compared.
