A Regional Gender Assessment of Energy Policies and Programmes in South Asia

The Asian Development Bank implemented a project that aimed to increase rural poor women’s access to affordable, reliable, and clean renewable energy sources and technologies in its three developing member countries in South Asia: Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. This report presents the findings of the review of national energy policies for the region that combined gender reviews and interactions with stakeholders.

Improving Gender Inclusive Access to Clean and Renewable Energy in Bhutan, Nepal and Sri Lanka

Energy is a critical factor in any poverty reduction strategy. It is also essential for generating production, income, and employment. The Asian Development Bank rolled out a project in three of its developing member countries in South Asia—Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka—to help increase rural poor women’s access to affordable, reliable, and clean renewable energy sources and technologies. This paper presents an overview of the project, including its background, key strategies, results, and lessons.

A Quasi-Experiment on the Effect of e-Learning on Students’ Mathematics Scores and Attitudes in Sri Lanka

The predominant approach in teaching mathematics in Sri Lanka involves traditional methods. This presentation shares results of a quasi-experiment carried out to test the effect of e-learning systems on educational progress, and improvement in mathematics achievement and cognitive ability of eighth-grade students in the country.

Education and Skills for Inclusive Growth and Green Jobs in Asia: Sri Lanka

This presentation shares the Government of Sri Lanka’s initiatives on green skills. It provides an overview of green jobs and green compliance in the country, along with greening trends in terms of knowledge and skill requirements, and current and future gaps. The presentation also includes a number of suggested recommendations.

Risk-Based Capital: Sri Lanka’s Experience

Risk-based capital (RBC) represents an amount of capital that, based on an assessment of risks, a company should hold to protect customers against adverse developments. Having an RBC framework can be the way forward for a sustainable industry given its flexibility to adjust to changes in the financial landscape. While each country will have its own model regarding capital adequacy and there is no "one size fits all" model, it is good to share experiences and use these to improve country models.
