The discussion focuses on supporting policies and incentives to promote the practice, provides options on managing sanitary landfills, and discusses financing mechanisms along with potential revenue and livelihood opportunities.

Decentralized Solutions: Agile and Appropriate Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste Management, and Renewable Energies

Mainstreaming decentralized solutions in wastewater treatment, solid waste management, and renewable energy is an agile and appropriate response to rapid urbanization. The proposed approach in addressing new challenges is the agile and iterative development of local solutions that meet the needs and promote ownership of local communities.

This learning event shared best practices in integrated urban planning, solid waste management, water operation, and public-private partnership from the People’s Republic of China study tour held in May 2014. It also discussed further opportunities for South-to-South learning and how to translate knowledge to help improve ADB operations.
