Development in Elderly Care in People's Republic of China and ADB’s Involvement

Yichang City has one of the highest population of elderly residents over the age of 60 in the People’s Republic of China. Yet, the availability of elderly care facilities and services in the city remain inadequate. ADB’s project aims to provide effective and efficient delivery of elderly care services through public-private partnerships.

ADB and ADBI Learning Program: Financing Social Protection for the Sustainable Development Goals

To assist its developing member countries (DMCs) in pursuing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ADB's Social Development Thematic Group initiated research on economic methods to estimate the fiscal implications of meeting the SDGs and pilot applications of the methods. The methods focused on SDGs relevant to social protection and were applied in three countries (Myanmar, Mongolia, and Timor-Leste). This learning event shared the findings of the research and trained DMC officials in applying the methods.

Road Safety Management 7 - Financing

Without funding, no road safety performance improvement is possible. Funding sources exist and need to be explored.

Road safety improvement requires adequate funding, management, and technical capacity. Funding for road safety initiatives is currently inadequate in most lower middle income countries. Without substantial funding, large-scale change management efforts cannot be meaningfully addressed.

In his keynote address, businessman Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala acknowledges the long-term value and positive effects of remittances to our country, citing that in the past decade, remittances have grown at a yearly average of 10%. This growth needs to be supported and sustained through strategies such as financially inclusive products, services, and innovations that can help channel remittances into the economy. He details examples of these products and innovations in his keynote speech.

This presentation introduces the United Cities and Local Government (UCLG), an association that represents and defends local governments’ interest on the world stage. It shares the work of UCLG in the Asia-Pacific region and what the organization does to support localization of the sustainable development goals at the global level.
