Aholotu Palu has been involved in various roles in Tonga’s Ministry of Finance and the Prime Minister’s Office for almost 20 years. He has also held significant positions at the World Bank, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS). An Economist by trade, he has vast experience on public policy analysis (fiscal and monetary), sovereign loan negotiations, banking, investment, healthcare financing and matters related to sustainable development.

Video (Siargao, Philippines Inception Workshop)

This workshop aims to:

  • build an understanding of the Philippine government priorities on strengthening reef resilience and sustainable management of coral reef ecosystems, including how this could enhance surfing and other marine-based tourism in Siargao;
  • outline the intended approach for assessing risk transfer / reef insurance opportunities within a pilot location in Siargao, including how this could serve as a model for other coastal municipalities, and;
  • gather insights for the detail assessment of the pilot location in Siargao.

This workshop aims to (i) build an understanding of Fijian government priorities on strengthening reef resilience and sustainable management of coral reef ecosystems; (ii) outline the intended approach for assessing risk transfer / reef insurance opportunities within key sites in Fiji, ; and (iii) collaboratively agree on two high opportunity sites for Fiji to take forward into full assessment.

The session summarizes the key findings and recommendations of the Knowledge Product "Sustainable Finance for Asia and the Pacific: Protecting and Restoring Coral Reefs" jointly published by ADB and The Nature Conservancy. The knowledge product reviews the benefits of coral reefs, the risks faced by coral reefs, and opportunities to sustainably finance the protection and restoration of coral reefs in Asia and the Pacific.
