Roads as Instruments for Water Management and Climate Resilience

Roads typically cause erosion, flooding, and water logging, whereas water is the prime cause of damage to roads. As such, roads and water are often considered as enemies; albeit if remedied, both could be friends. Roads can become instruments for water management and climate resilience. MetaMeta’s Frank van Steenbergen discussed the Green Roads Initiative, presenting techniques and examples from different countries.

Addressing the Challenges of Climate-Resilient Sustainable Urban Development in Tamil Nadu

The State of Tamil Nadu ranks first in urbanization among large states in India and faces severe droughts and urban floods. Urban investments are estimated at $42 billion (2012-2023), with $7.5 billion required for water supply and sanitation. Officials from Tamil Nadu in this learning event discussed their plans to address these complex challenges with ADB support.

Solid Waste Management Improvement Project

The Solid Waste Management Improvement Project in Uzbekistan is developing a National Solid Waste Management (SWM) Strategy and investment program to guide sector improvements over the medium term. It introduced waste minimization and recycling initiatives citywide, and will improve system operational efficiencies, and strengthen the capacity of implementation institutions involved in SWM service provision.
