This ADBI Featured Speaker Webinar presented United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Senior Counsel Peter Fowler, who discussed the increasing importance of intellectual property (IP) protection and enforcement in Asia and the Pacific given rising e-commerce and digital trade, competition for foreign direct investment in advanced technologies, and focus on green and sustainable growth.

Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management Thematic Group

From 2011 to 2020 ADB approved about $41.6 billion in climate financing. ADB's own resources provided $36.2 billion while external resources contributed almost $5.4 billion. ADB supports green growth in Asia and the Pacific through financing and innovative technologies. Through mechanisms such as the Climate Investment Funds, multilateral development banks have mobilized billions for climate action in developing countries.

Along with rapid urbanization occurring in many countries in Asia and the Pacific, one of the urban development challenges faced by cities is addressing the needs of their aging population and people with disabilities. By 2030, Asia will be the second-fastest aging region in the world at a 66% expected increase in the 60 and over age group. This spells the need to make urban development and services more inclusive.

Dr. Bregje van Wesenbeeck is an expert advisor on nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation at Deltares. She provides advice on flood risk reduction, erosion mitigation, and climate change adaptation in amongst others Indonesia, Tonga, Kiribati, the Philippines, the Netherlands, and the USA. She uses her system knowledge and project experience to evaluate the feasibility of intervention strategies in different coastal, riverine and urban environments.
