Stories of Impact

In this presentation, ADB's Woochong Um highlighted ADB's commitment to reduce the bank's carbon emissions from its operations. In particular, he highlighted that ADB procured certified emission reductions (CERs) from the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project registered by the UNFCCC to offset the estimated carbon emissions from participant-related travel for the Forum.

Hybrid Social Solutions: Gridless Solar Network Transforming Rural Communities

Hybrid Social Solutions is an organization that is building a gridless solar network in the Philippines to transform rural communities. From diesel and bunker-fueled electricity sources, HSS has been introducing solar-powered products that are not only safe and sustainable but also increase an individual's productivity and capacity to earn more income.

Electric Vehicles as Disruption for Sustainable Impact

The need to find more sustainable options to power demand for personal mobility is greater than ever, and the automotive industry is currently undergoing a big transformation. In this presentation, Mr. Atsushi Najima discussed how electrified mobility can help tackle the continuing challenges of air quality and noise pollution. He also elaborated on the Nissan Intelligent Mobility as a reflection the company's approach in designing and building vehicles, providing the vision to meet the changing demand of customers.

Innovating for a Carbon Smart Future

In this scene-setting presentation, Jennifer Holmgren emphasized the need to re-think the carbon economy, as well as the need to put carbon only where we need to. Her company, LanzaTech, is a carbon recycling company that is working to deploy carbon capture and reuse facilities globally to make fuels and chemicals from waste carbon. She also explained how LanzaTech's technology takes carbon emissions and converts them to ethanol, which can readily be used for other applications.

MWS - The Biggest Advance in Wind Power Ever

The Madson Wind System (MWS) & MWS Air-Steel Battery are the biggest improvement in Wind Power ever. MWS harvests Wind Energy as Compressed Air (not as electricity), using Hyper Simplified, very robust, very low cost & very low maintenance Wind Turbines. MWS compresses air in stages providing High Pressure - Compressed Air Energy Storage (HP-CAES), stored in the MWS Air-Steel Battery, a system of many low-cost small steel cells, which can store large volumes of HP-CAES for DoD of electricity instantly.

De-risking Geothermal Production Well Drilling through Cutting-Edge Science

The high risk and cost associated with exploration and production well drilling is a well-known barrier to exploitation of geothermal energy – a major source of clean base-load power critical for achieving a sustainable future. This is particularly relevant in areas of Asia and the Pacific endowed with abundant geothermal resources, but where scale-up of geothermal power is hampered by high upfront costs. This presentation discussed a solution, using science-based imaging of geothermal flow systems to reduce or eliminate the high sunk-cost of geothermal well drilling decision making.
