Background:

ADB and the Vienna University Global Tax Policy Center (WU) will hold the Digital Economy Taxation (DET) Network Conference in Manila, Philippines on 20–21 February 2025.

The conference, supported by the Domestic Resource Mobilization Trust Fund, marks a key milestone in the ongoing efforts of ADB and the DET Network to address the complex challenges of digitalization within tax administration. It will bring together representatives from governments, international organizations, businesses, and academia to explore the profound impact of digital technologies on tax compliance and governance. 


Objectives:

The conference offers a platform for participants to examine the transformative role of AI in enhancing efficiency, transparency, and data management within tax administrations, and to discuss essential governance frameworks needed for responsible digital technology integration. 

Topics will also include the adequacy of current and emerging methods, such as BEPS 2.0, to effectively capture value created within the digital economy, alongside innovative best practices in VAT/GST administration for better cross-border compliance.


Target Participants:

Senior and technical officials from Asia-Pacific governments and ADB staff involved in tax policy, tax administration, and domestic resource mobilization, particularly those interested in how AI and emerging technologies are reshaping these areas.
