An Overview of E-Waste in the Basel Convention (Circular Economy Webinar Series Session 30)
This webinar will cover various aspects of electronic and electrical wastes, or e-wastes, in the context of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal. Carla Valle-Klann and Tatiana Terekhova, experts from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), will present information on how e-waste is reflected in the convention and the activities that parties to the convention have been working on, such as partnerships, guidelines, and inventories. This webinar will also be an opportunity to discuss the impacts of e-waste in the circular economy.

Carla Valle-Klann | Program Manager Officer, UNEP
Carla Valle-Klann is responsible for the areas pertaining to the Basel Convention technical guidelines, electronic approaches to the notification, and movement documents. She leads the technical assistance program and the e-waste program in the Secretariat of the Basel, Stockholm, and Rotterdam Conventions. Carla joined the Secretariat in September 2010 and has been working for the United Nations since 2005. Carla, a Brazilian national, holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University RWTH Aachen.
Tatiana Terekhova | Program Management Officer, UNEP
Tatiana Terekhova has a leading role in the partnership program, engagement with non-state actors, and illegal traffic and trade of hazardous chemicals waste under the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions. She implements a number of capacity-building activities, including those related to marine pollution and plastic waste. She has been working for the UN for over 18 years. Tatiana, a Russian national, has a background in international environmental law and law degrees from Russia and Switzerland.
