Public Transportation Innovations and Adaptation Planning for Climate Change - A Case Study of Florida
In response to challenges such as declining ridership, particularly exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, and driven by technological advancements, public transportation agencies have implemented various innovations to revitalize the transit industry. This presentation examined the impact of these innovations on the industry and its customers, focusing on three distinct cases in Florida: (1) the integration of transit services and Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) in Pinellas County, (2) the implementation of ride-hailing services in downtown Tampa, and (3) the introduction of Automated Shuttle Services in Lake Nona. Similarly, in response to sea level rise and storm surges, a variety of adaptation measures have been implemented in Florida. The presentation also highlighted specific policies, measures, their effects, and concerns regarding equity and long-term resilience.
